Hi Everyone!
Welcome back to Read or Roast: a monthly post to forcehelp me to reach my goal of having a maximum of one hundred books in my Goodreads TBR by the end of 202223.
Every month I’ll go through my TBR and pick one book I want to read, and one book to roast in Dragon Fire!* You can check out the last post here.
*Important Disclaimer: absolutely no books will be burned in making of this meme. I’m a book dragon not a monster.

This is How You Lose the Time War
By Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone
Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandant finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, grows into something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future.
Except the discovery of their bond would mean death for each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win that war.
THE VERDICT…..?

Enemies to lovers in a high stakes time war? Absolutely, yes please! Honestly, the eye-catching cover and title already sold me, but the summary was just the icing on the cake.
I actually fully intended to sit down with this one last year, until life got in the way. And I’m definitely not ready to give it up yet!

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely #1)
By Melissa Marr
Rule #3: Don’t stare at invisible faeries.
Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty – especially if they learn of her Sight – and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.
Rule #2: Don’t speak to invisible faeries.
Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.
Rule #1: Don’t ever attract their attention.
But it’s too late. Keenan is the Summer King, who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost — regardless of her plans or desires.
Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.
Faery intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr’s stunning twenty-first-century faery tale.
THE VERDICT…..?

Long ago when I was a starry-eyed, romantic girl, this exact plot would have had me utterly obsessed from page one and likely inspired some terrible fanfiction to boot.
Unfortunately, the cynical dragon I’ve become just isn’t as into it as I once may have been. Nothing wrong with it – and I’ll probably come back to faerie stories again one day – but I’m just not vibing with the story.
Maybe another time Wicked Lovely, but for today, it’s off to the roasting pit for you.
Current Number of Books in my TBR: 274
The number is smaller and that means I’m definitely making progress! Regardless of the fact that I am nowhere near my goal, I’m clearly well on my way.
No further comments necessary; end of story.
(Hopefully I’ll do better next month!)
Thanks for reading everyone!
