Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah @Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted by Meeghan @Meeghan Reads. You can check out last week’s post here!
This week’s topic is the Top Five Books That Have Been on My TBR Since Forever, and oh boy was it hard to narrow this down. I am not a particularly picky dragon when it comes to my TBR pile(s). I see a book; I like the sound of the book; I add the book. I could use a stricter system when it comes to what ends up in the hoard, but where’s the fun in that?
That said, I probably should start getting through my TBR before it becomes (even more) unmanageable. At this rate, I’ll end up crashing Goodreads, and then what am I supposed to do? Actually read the books I already own? What kind of book dragon would I be then?
Jokes aside, for this list, I picked five of the titles I’ve been so excited to read in the past, and that I still want to get to in the (hopefully) near future.
Let’s have a look!
Top Five Books That Have Been on My TBR Since Forever
Oh, the Athena Club. How I love your premise of monstrous ladies fighting the cabal of evil scientists who created them; and how I hate that I haven’t read your final installment yet. I think this was mostly due to, not disliking, but being somewhat less enthusiastic about the second installment. You can read about the first and the second books here, but regardless I still really want to know what happens next! Maybe 2022 is the year we finally solve the mystery.
Moving from a series I have yet to finish to one that I haven’t even started. The Bear and the Nightingale is the start of another series that I’ve heard people raving about, but I have yet to read. This is my own fault for being more of a ‘mood’ reader than a planner – schedules are for the weak! – and especially since I actually own a physical copy of this book. It’s probably about time I sat down and read it already… soon… probably…
This one I’m especially mad about because it’s really my own fault I haven’t read this yet. Despite loving Naomi Novik’s Uprooted, loving fairy tale retellings, and even loving this particular fairy tale in particular, it still sits on my shelves, utterly unread. If nothing else, I swear I will start this one before the end of the year. Seriously, I promise!
Another book that I absolutely should have read ages ago, Sorcery of Thorns is absolutely going to be a book I rave about. It has everything: magic, dark sorcery, a smart heroine, enemies to lovers, and a library. Not much else to say, really; I just have to get to it already.
Of all the books on this list, this one might be the one I’ve neglected the most. Not just because it was published in 2007, but because I was given a copy of this book the same year it came out. And yet, there it sits on my shelves, unread and mocking me. As I deserve, since I love most everything written by Guy Gavriel Kay and I can’t believe I’ve left this for so long. Don’t judge me too harshly; I’m a book dragon, but I never said I was a good one.
Well, there we have it. My wall of shamelist of books that have spent far too long on my TBR list. If nothing else, February is forcing me to look over my TBR more thoroughly, and reminding me of so many great titles that I still really want to read! I’m spoiled for choice, and maybe that’s part of my problem, haha.
Either way, I have a new resolution for 2022 now: read through my TBR! Or at least start that process. Hopefully I can keep this, and my other resolutions, before the end of the year.
How many of these books have you already read? Are there any titles gathering dust on your shelves? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading everyone!
2007? Wow. Round of applause there.

Umm, firstly, your system for adding books sounds exactly like mine — so it’s basically perfect 😅
Secondly, all of these are also on my TBR, except The Bear and the Nightingale, which I LOVED so much.
Hope you enjoy these when you get to them!! And I hope you had fun this week!! 💕

The system works, why change it?😆 Hopefully I can get to all of these this year and especially the Bear and the Nightingale since everyone has said how much they love it! I had so much fun this week ❤️

Yay!! I’m so glad. I’m sure you’ll love Bear, it’s got a lot of lore from Slavic mythology and it’s set in medieval Russia. It’s fantastic. 💕
