Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah @Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted by Meeghan @Meeghan Reads. You can check out last week’s post here!
If you’ve checked out my past reviews, you might notice that I have a tendency to be a little behind on my reading. By which I mean, I will happily buy a book at the moment of its release, and then forget about it for a decade or so until I actually sit down to read it. I’m the worst kind of fool, I know.
But, that also means my TBR list is often filled with fantastic books that I know I’ll love to pieces – so at least I’ll always have something to look forward to!
Until then, I listed five books I wanted to read in 2021 but didn’t – because, again, I’m the worst. Hopefully, this will encourage me to sit down and start reading for a change. (Hopefully!)
Top Five Books I Haven’t Read Yet in 2021

The Prison Healer
by Lynette Noni
I I’m ashamed I haven’t started this one yet. I snatched this book up when I saw it in stores, but even with the sequel already released, I still haven’t managed to pick it up. Unfortunately, November is a touch crazy for me right now (thank you NaNoWriMo) so I doubt I’ll be able to get to it until the new year. Even though I REALLY want to!

The Ruthless Lady’s Guide to Wizardry
by C.M. Waggoner
The title pretty much tells me everything I need to know about this book to know that I’m going to enjoy it. Lady protagonist? Yes. Magic and mayhem? Yes, yes. A fun title that implies mischief and a wicked sense of humor? And it has a gorgeous cover. Yes, all of this please! Right now! (Or when I eventually get to it, anyway)

A Master of Djinn
by P. Djèlí Clark
I seem to be on a bit of a historical-fantasy kick, and this book is no exception. I’ve heard tons of fantastic reviews from bloggers who have absolutely loved this book – and the series that follows it. It’s practically criminal I haven’t devoured this book yet, and I have no excuse. But I’ll get my hands on a copy eventually, I promise!

Foundryside
by Robert Jackson Bennett
This is a book that I picked up based on the fact that the cover looked really cool (don’t judge me, I like pretty covers), but the summary absolutely sold me. The magic system alone – scriving – sounds so unique, and the idea of magical capitalism isn’t one I’ve seen before. It’s also part of a trilogy and I love trilogies. With the last installment coming out in 2022 I better get on this one quick!

She Who Became the Sun
by Shelley Parker-Chan
And finally, we have another entry that I’ve heard nothing but great things about, that I still sadly haven’t got to… yet. This was pitched as Mulan meets The Song of Achilles, and I’m beyond excited because, by all accounts, it actually delivers! This promises to be a dark, brutal story that will absolutely destroy me and I am here for it.
Have you read any of these books? Are there any others you’re looking forward to? Let me know in the comments below.
Thanks for reading everyone!
Oh, I really want to read a Lynette Noni book!! I have… probably too many considering I haven’t read anything by her yet. But these ones look so good!! Good luck reading these (I believe in you) 💕

Nice list! I haven’t read any of those either … though, have A Master of Djinn on the shelf! (Read the first 2 chapters while transiting home with it. It was a great start!)
