A Quick Update

It’s been a little while, hasn’t it?

I want to send out a massive apology to everyone for disappearing from the face of the Earth. These past (endless) months of lockdowns, protests, mandates, second, third and fourth waves, and the overall depressing state of the world haven’t been easy for anyone, myself included. Unfortunately, burnout hit me pretty hard, and I needed to step back and give myself some time to re-center and refocus. For everyone who checked in on me, and who continued to visit this little corner of the internet, thank you. You’re all amazing, and I’ve missed sharing my ramblings with you all.

I also wanted to take this chance to give everyone an update on what’s to come, as well as some (very optimistic) plans for the future, because I am super organized like that and great at multi-tasking. I will now ignore the sounds of disbelieving laughter from everyone who has ever known me, and just get right into things.

First, if you check in on my site regularly, you’ll probably start to notice some changes to the appearance and general layout of the site. I’ve decided to place a bit more focus on my efforts as a professional editor and proofreader, and to that end I’ll be trying to give everything a more polished and professional look overall. I’ll still be doing my normal reviews, but there will be a few aesthetic tweaks coming for sure and slight shift in the overall scope of the site.

Next, is that I’ll occasionally be putting out some different types of blog posts alongside my reviews: talking about my favorite tropes and clichés, book-to-movie adaptations, and reviews about tv shows, movies, and maybe some graphic novels as well. I know you’re all dying to hear my opinions, as if I were in any way an expert on these subjects and not some random dork on the internet with too much time on my hands; so look out for that exciting content! 

And probably most important, is that I won’t be reviewing a book every single week like I did in the past. This might – and probably will – change as I get back into things, but between my real-life and professional schedules, I don’t have as much time to read as I once did. I do sometimes engage with family and friends who aren’t fictional (the worst kind), and my boss has yet to include excessive reading as part of my work responsibilities (rude), so I’ve had to adjust accordingly until my dream of escaping to the mountains and becoming a full-time book hermit is finally realized. 

I’m setting a starting goal of one or two book reviews out each month, and I’ll be holding off on accepting submissions for a little while longer. I fully expect this to change as my schedule improves, but for now I’m going to start slow and let myself get back into things at a more generous pace. But, who knows?

Hopefully, I can get back into things and start focusing again on what really matters in life: the never-ending battle with my TBR list.
