Well, guess who was the idiot who forgot to post on time?
At least I managed to double my reading list for the month! Finished last month’s planned reads and add two more to the bunch. Hopefully I can keep this up and see this continue through the next month as well.
Here’s hoping anyway!
Had quite a few different reviews this month, as well as a few books I wasn’t planning on reviewing at the beginning. Hopefully some of you guys enjoyed them. As always, thank you everyone who checks out my silly little blog and enjoyed fantasy as much as I do. It really means a lot!
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
Series: The Poppy War #1
Published: May 1, 2018
Dark, gripping, and absolutely brutal, The Poppy War manages to balance out the darkest elements of its narrative with a terrific protagonist and a compelling story. If you can handle a little brutality in your fantasy, I would definitely recommend it.
King of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
Series: The Broken Empire #2
Published: August 7, 2012
Publisher: Ace Books
With double the adventure and quadruple the body count, at its best this book outshines its predecessor with its story and ultimate payoff, but overwhelms the reader with senseless brutality at its worst; not for the faint of heart, but at the very least, a good continuation of the series.
Unravel the Dusk by Elizabeth Lim
Series: The Blood of the Stars #2
Published: July 7, 2020
With incredible magic, a kingdom at war, and characters you can’t help but love, Unravel the Dusk is an endearing – if rushed – finale to a beautiful series.
Daughters of the Storm by Kim Wilkins
Series: Blood and Gold #1
Published: November 1, 2014
Publisher: Del Rey Books
With a generic setting and some truly unlikeable protagonists, the story fails to live up to the potential of its premise, creating a narrative without any charm or heart to carry it through. Other readers may be able to enjoy it, but I definitely am not one of them.
I can’t wait to get started on December’s reading list. I’m going to keep trying for about one review a week but we’ll see if I can surprise myself again!
My TBR for December is listed below. Let me know what you guys think!
Thank you so much for reading!
Thanks very much!
