At least I managed to double my reading list for the month! Finished last month’s planned reads and add two more to the bunch. Hopefully I can keep this up and see this continue through the next month as well.
Here’s hoping anyway!

Dark, gripping, and absolutely brutal, The Poppy War manages to balance out the darkest elements of its narrative with a terrific protagonist and a compelling story. If you can handle a little brutality in your fantasy, I would definitely recommend it.

With double the adventure and quadruple the body count, at its best this book outshines its predecessor with its story and ultimate payoff, but overwhelms the reader with senseless brutality at its worst; not for the faint of heart, but at the very least, a good continuation of the series.

With a generic setting and some truly unlikeable protagonists, the story fails to live up to the potential of its premise, creating a narrative without any charm or heart to carry it through. Other readers may be able to enjoy it, but I definitely am not one of them.
I can’t wait to get started on December’s reading list. I’m going to keep trying for about one review a week but we’ll see if I can surprise myself again!
